The global race to cut emissions to zero is a vital step in addressing climate change, and the DIY sector will rise to the challenge.
The Make it Zero initiative is designed to help you catalyse decarbonisation across your value chain (suppliers and customers).
In the knowledge hub, you will find information and resources that provide clarity on where your emissions come from, the challenges and opportunities of decarbonisation, and the strategic recommendations and key actions that can drive decarbonisation across the DIY sector.
This includes a strategy and roadmap for the industry that can help you tackle ‘Scope 3’, which comprises up to 98% of our sector's emissions and is arguably the most challenging to reduce.
It is essential that the DIY sector plays a significant role in carbon emission reduction.
Vision & Objectives
Climate change is the defining crisis of our time, and it is happening even more quickly than we feared. But we are far from powerless in the face of this global threat.
It is imperative to take action at the global and sector level. To provide the necessary leadership, EDRA/ GHIN launched a collaborative Scope 3 Taskforce to help the DIY sector reduce its Scope 3 greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.
The Scope 3 Taskforce aims to address confusion and inefficiencies for retailers trying to lower their emissions across their value chains. It will do this by agreeing on more consistent methodologies for handling carbon data throughout the supply chain, sharing best practices in reporting and accelerating progress to reduce Scope 3 emissions.
All DIY retailers will benefit from the task force’s learnings and shared best practices.
Vision:
The task force will develop clear and consistent methodologies for collecting and measuring Scope 3 emissions data. They will implement this information in their own operations and share best practices. Through the collaboration of our members and supply chains, we will use our global leadership to accelerate the industry’s progress toward reducing emissions.
Objectives:
- Clear and consistent emissions calculation methodologies
- Agree on common accounting and reporting standards and reporting platforms
- Engage with suppliers to drive action and change across the supply chain
Strategic pillars:
The task force identified that the most significant challenges to reducing Scope 3 emissions fall into four high-level categories: Accounting, Supplier Data, Targets and Engagement and Reduction.
