In March of 2026 Make it Zero hosted its inaugural supplier summit, an event designed to bring together suppliers from across the DIY sector to discuss the work MIZ is doing to decarbonise the sector through collaboration and joint action.

At the summit, we officially launched both the Supplier Engagement Standard and the Plastics Low‑Carbon & Circular Ambition initiatives co‑developed with our members to accelerate meaningful climate action across the sector.

Summit Objectives

That year’s summit was designed to:

  • Align suppliers with the Make it Zero decarbonisation vision
  • Support suppliers in adopting practical, low‑carbon practices
  • Strengthen supplier collaboration and industry relationships
  • Inspire long‑term partnerships for sector‑wide transformation

The Challenge

Hear from Erwin Van Osta - CEO of HUBO and President of EDRA GHIN, John Herber - General Secretary of EDRA GHIN and Caroline van der Voort discuss the challenge of decarbonising the DIY sector and how it requires cross sector collaboration for that to happen.

Followed by Jamie Pitcairn - Technical Director of Corporate sustainability which gives an overview of Make it Zero.

 

Taking Action 

Hear how Make it Zero its taking action to reduce emissions for key materials in the sector. Starting with Plastics, we have developed a decarbonisation strategy for Members to implement to reduce emissions by driving adoption of recycled content within products.

Working together

Understand how Make it Zero is bringing together retailers and suppliers to develop consistent, effective and collaborative supplier engagement to drive decarbonisation across the sector.

Followed by three case studies explaining how their organisations are engaging with suppliers and driving consistency through the standard:
